(More customer reviews)I had the good fortune to read an advance copy of this wondrous book (I can't wait to get it for a second read) and for you dylan fans out there we might just have the deepest dig into dylan so far published. I have read most of the extant texts, both biographies and critical exegeses, but no one has tackled this tack before. Miller brings many years of serious study not only of america's most amazing poetic force of the last 40 years, but as well of an immense range of underground americana and classic scholarship. It is a wide ranging erudition that is unconventional, surprising, and thoroughly exciting. His thesis? That Dylan is in his songs discoursing on the fine points of his personal growth and spiritual transformation in his own mythopoeic language. I accepted Mr. Miller's premiss - and went along for the ride! I look back on the previous texts I've read as timid toes in rushing rivers. I mean c'mon, to even think of conventional minds trying to understand this musical force?...I guess my eyes have been opened!
