(More customer reviews)This video is the fourth in a 10-video set documenting Rock `n' Roll in America. It's very entertaining and informative.
We start with Bob Dylan, who rose to fame with his folk-like style of music. The video has a great clip of the Newport Folk Festival in 1965, where Bob Dylan first performs with an electric guitar. While booed during the performance, it became clear that rock music with its power could carry the lyrical substance that folk music had.
The video continues with clips about Jimi Hendrix (it could use more) and the Who, as well as a great clip with Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys regarding "God Only Knows." There's also a glance at Janis Joplin here, too. The point of the video is showing the trend in rock of experimenting with new sounds and talking about compelling subjects, not just bubble-gum romance.
Once again, this video series has great interview clips with today's rock stars (Tom Petty, Bono) as well as the originals (Brian Wilson, Pete Townshend, and David Crosby). This video seems to have more focus than many of the others, and seems to be among the better of the series.
Enjoy this entertaining video.
